Little Mell Fell / Lake District 09/2017

Here are a few very different pictures taken within about 15 minutes of each other up on Little Mell Fell in the Lake District. Little Mell Fell is just about the lowest and least significant of the Hills that Wainwright wrote about in his books, but after finally climbing the Fell I feel really pleased I did. Despite taking less than fifteen minutes to get to the top it affords stunning views all the way around –

It serves as one of the outermost hills within the Cumbrian Lake District – if you venture any further north of Ullswater the ground becomes flatter and is a plain when you reach Penrith.

To stand on the relatively flat summit of LMF the surface seems unremarkable other than a well-made triangulation pillar. But like a lot of things in life its when you raise your eyes higher towards the 360 degree horizon that suddenly everything pans out
